Poster Case Study: Colombian Condor

This poster was created to reinterpret a Craigslist listing titled “Free Big Rocks.” The assignment required designing a poster tailored to a randomly assigned classmate’s visual preferences. The listing was absurd; the target audience preferred modernist structure. The goal was to bridge those styles without compromising clarity or intent.

The Challenge

The original listing was unfiltered and humorous. My audience valued control, balance, and minimalist aesthetics. The challenge was to elevate the source material without stripping it of its personality.

Design Solution

The poster reframes a Craigslist joke as a formal composition. A digitally painted Colombian condor is centered against a floral backdrop.

The word “Free” is set in red script. Supporting text uses clean sans-serif type. “Make / Manufacturer: God” is left intact. Symmetry and color create visual weight.

Outcome

The final poster turns an absurd Craigslist listing into a structured visual statement. It uses symmetry, restrained typography, and symbolic imagery to create impact. The design avoids exaggeration and instead relies on contrast between form and content. The result is deliberate, strange, and visually controlled.
